Daniel J. McKinley, organ

Biography

Dan McKinley (a native of Borden, Indiana) is organist & choirmaster of Christ the Redeemer Anglican Church, Danvers, MA, after having been at Christ Church of Hamilton & Wenham, MA, 1998-2009. He held the same position for nineteen years at First Christian Church, Columbus, IN, and in 1998 was interim assistant organist & choirmaster of Christ Church Cathedral, Indianapolis.

 He studied organ and church music at the Indiana University School of Music, received bachelor’s and master’s degrees with distinction, and was awarded the school’s Performer’s Certificate. As a tuba player, he was named the Outstanding Bandsman of the IU Marching Hundred; he never got to the Rose Bowl.

 McKinley is sub-dean of the Boston chapter, American Guild of Organists, and has been dean and sub-dean of the Merrimack Valley chapter. For seven years he was a member of the Liturgy & Music Committee of the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts. Before moving east, he served as president and treasurer of Columbus Pro Musica, an advisory panelist for the Indiana Arts Commission, and a reviewer for The Republic and Arts Indiana.

 Dan has been soloist under David Bowden’s direction in organ & orchestra works of Dupré, Elgar, Guilmant, Jongen, Poulenc, Saint-Saëns, and Widor, and they recorded a Dupré CD for the Naxos label. Solo performances with orchestra have been broadcast on the syndicated radio programs Performance Today, Pipedreams, and With Heart and Voice.
