Adventure Concerts are a special educational concert opportunity for elementary students to explore the orchestra, both in the classroom and in the concert hall. This program includes three concerts performed at Tilson Auditorium annually for thousands of elementary school students, private school students, and homeschool students in the Wabash Valley. Students in VCSC also receive an opportunity to meet our musicians in-person via Adventure Preview school tours with up to six (6) musicians, and during Adventure Encore virtual engagement sessions on Zoom which allow students to ask questions about a professional musician’s career.

We offer three (3) concerts that take place at Tilson Auditorium on the campus of Indiana State University. All 4th grade classes from Vigo County Public Schools are automatically registered for the 9:30am performance.

Our 11am and 1pm performances are open to elementary age non-VCSC public schools, private schools, and homeschool students.

The Adventure Program consists of three prongs that share the joy of music with students and encourage them to MAKE music.

• Adventure Previews - 5-6 THSO Musicians travel to each elementary school in Vigo County and share a 25-minute presentation that features excerpts from Star Wars and the William Tell Overture as well as instrument demonstrations. The goal of the Previews is to get students excited for their big field trip to see the full orchestra in Tilson Auditorium and give them an opportunity to see the instruments up-close. Adventure Previews are currently only available for VCSC elementary schools.

• Adventure Concerts - the THSO performs 3 full orchestra concerts for elementary students at Tilson Auditorium each year. These concerts introduce students to the instruments and instrument families, share familiar favorites like Star Wars and The Nutcracker, and encourage students to join their school or church music ensembles. Adventure Concerts are open to all public schools, private schools, and homeschool communities.

• Adventure Encores - 3-4 THSO Musicians meet with elementary students via Zoom for a virtual Q&A session after they attend the Adventure Concerts. Students have the opportunity to ask about musician schooling, how musicians make a living, what inspired them to play their instruments, and more. Adventure Encores are currently only available for VCSC elementary schools.
