Volunteer opportunities can range from ushering for concerts, helping with administrative tasks, concert setup or tear down, hanging up concert posters around town, representing the THSO in community events, and more. As volunteer opportunities arise, we will email our Symphony Volunteer Network with opportunity details and a sign up form.

Volunteers must be high school age or older. Volunteers receive a free THSO T-shirt per season and free tickets to events.

CURRENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Regular Season Concerts | 7:30pm | Tilson Auditorium at Indiana State University

Coat Check Volunteers (Supper at the Symphony and Concert)

Responsibilities

  • Manage coat check room

Schedule

  • 4:45pm arrive, short training

  • 5:00pm Supper at the Symphony guests begin arriving

  • 6:30pm Concert guests begin arriving

  • 7:30pm concert begins, may leave coat room to enjoy concert

  • 9:15pm approximate concert end, assist patrons with getting their coats

  • 9:45pm check in with Executive Director prior to leaving venue

Dress Code

  • Long black dress pants or dressy skirt/dress no shorter than just above the knee

  • Long sleeve or ¾ length sleeve dressy black top

  • Black closed toe shoes, black socks for men

Ushers (must be 18 or older)

Responsibilities

  • Hand out programs

  • Check patrons’ tickets at auditorium doors

  • Help patrons to their seat

Schedule

  • 6pm arrive for usher meeting with House Manager

  • 6:30pm doors open

  • 7:30pm enjoy concert

  • 9:15pm approximate concert end, assist with patron exit

  • 9:45pm check in with House Manager before leaving

THSO Merchandise Table

A minimum of 1 volunteer needed. A representative of the THSO will also be present at the merchandise table.

Responsibilities

  • Sell logo wear to patrons

  • Monitor table and inventory to prevent theft

  • Answer questions and, when applicable, refer patrons to online merchandise website

Schedule

  • 4:45pm sales training meeting

  • 5:00pm sales open, Supper at the Symphony guests begin arriving

  • 6:30pm concert patrons begin arriving

  • 7:30pm concert begins, Sales Volunteers must have at least 1 person at the table at all times during the concert to prevent theft

  • 8:30pm approximate intermission start, Sales Volunteers must be back at the table BEFORE intermission begins

  • 9:30pm approximate concert end, Sales Volunteers must be back at the table BEFORE the end of the concert

  • 10:00pm close table and pack up merchandise, check in with Executive Director prior to leaving the venue

Moonlight Serenades | March 19, 2023 | 4:00pm | Hatfield Hall on Rose Hulman’s Campus 

Must be 16 years or older.

Dress Code for Ushers, Ticket Scanners, and Merchandise Table

  • Long black dress pants or dressy skirt/dress no shorter than just above the knee

  • Long sleeve or ¾ length sleeve dressy black top

  • Black closed-toe shoes, black socks for men

Ushers

A minimum of 6 volunteers are needed.

Responsibilities

  • Help patrons find their assigned seats.

  • Hand out programs

Schedule

  • 3:00pm arrive for usher meeting with House Manager

  • 3:30pm doors open

  • 4:00pm concert begins*

  • 5:15pm approximate concert end, assist patrons with exiting venue

*While ushers will be working during the concert, they will still experience the concert as they will be placed in the auditorium during the performance.

Scan Tickets

A minimum of 2 volunteers are needed.

Responsibilities

  • Scan tickets as patrons arrive

Schedule

  • 3:00pm arrive for meeting with House Manager

  • 3:30pm doors open

  • 4:00pm concert begins

  • 4:15pm released to enjoy performance

  • 5:15pm approximate concert end

THSO Merchandise Table

  • 5:15pm - 6pm VIP reception, sales may take place during reception

 *Merchandise volunteers will be working during the concert in the Hatfield Hall lobby and will not be able to listen to the concert in this venue unfortunately.
