Orchestra Personnel Manager

JOB SUMMARY: 

The Orchestra Personnel Manager is responsible for the management of orchestra personnel, including filling all needed positions for each service (rehearsals & concerts), contracting musicians, hiring substitute and extra musicians, coordinating auditions, preparing and entering payroll, working with the Music Director (MD) and Operations Manager (OM) to address musician personnel issues following the guidelines of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), and serving as liaison between musicians, the Music Director, and administrative staff. This position reports directly to the Operations Manager and serves as an integral member of the Artistic Staff, contributing to the creation of exceptional orchestral music events. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Prior experience as a professional orchestral musician preferred. 

  • Prior experience in orchestra personnel management preferred. 

  • Bachelor’s degree in music preferred. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES: 

  • Working knowledge of current Microsoft Office applications 

  • Superior communication, management, organization, and interpersonal skills. 

  • Highly self-motivated and goal oriented with keen attention to detail, especially pertaining to musician contact information and payroll. 

  • Possess strong personal integrity with ability to handle sensitive and confidential information. 

  • Must have a positive attitude, be able to work in a high-functioning team, possess a passion for symphonic music, have a strong understanding and sensitivity to the needs of orchestra musicians, guest artists, and the conductor. 

CONTENT OF CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION: 

  • This position requires maintaining a high level of confidentiality with access to personal and financial information of musicians. 

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: 

  • Part-time, approximately an average of 10 hours per week, including some required evenings and weekends for rehearsals and concerts. 

  • Most of the responsibilities of this position can be completed remotely. Flexible schedule necessary to manage critical issues in a timely manner. Some duties will be required in person: 

  • The Orchestra Personnel Manager will be required to be present at rehearsals and concerts and must live within approximately 100 miles of Terre Haute, IN.
