Brazilian Trio Choro Das 3 comes to Hatfield Hall

On November 11, 2023 at 7pm, the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra is excited to present world-class Brazilian trio, Choro Das 3, at Hatfield Hall on the campus of Rose-Hulman.

Brent McPike, guitar and Solly Burton, mandolin

This fabulous all-female Brazilian trio, currently on their eighth American tour is joining their friend, award-winning mandolinist Solly Burton, along with Terre Haute favorite Brent McPike in a spectacular one-night-only stop. This group, which has toured around the world, will play sets as a trio and then will join Solly and Brent in a once-in-a-lifetime extended jam session. It is a must-see opportunity to experience the best of Brazilian music.

Choro das 3 features sisters Corina (flute), Lia (7 string guitar) and Elisa (mandolin, clarinet, banjo, accordion and piano). Tragically, Eduardo, the sisters’ father, lost his life to Covid early in the pandemic before vaccines were available in Brazil. Eduardo was the band’s percussionist and played pandeiro (Brazilian tambourine). The trio's mother, Cristina, stepped in as the band manager after Eduardo’s passing. The sisters continue to dedicate every performance to their father’s memory.

The group has released 11 albums and have been touring in North America, Europe and Brazil for the past 21 years. The trio plays Brazilian instrumental music based on choro, an instrumental music genre that emerged in Brazil in the 19th century which became the foundation of all Brazilian music (think “Girl from Ipanema”). The group started their current tour of the United States in May 2023. Terre Haute is the last stop on their tour!

“This is an extraordinary opportunity to hear stunning virtuoso Brazilian stars,” notes Dr. David Bowden, Artistic Director and Conductor of the Terre Haute Symphony. “You don’t want to miss them.”

This concert is proudly sponsored by Walt Balcavage and Jean Kristeller.
