On Sunday October 18, 2026, at 4pm, the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra is honored to partner with Sisters of Providence and return to the Church of the Immaculate Conception at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods for an afternoon of autumn-inspired chamber music featuring the THSO String Quartet and Woodwind Quintet in memory of the THSO's dear friend, Stephanie Salter. Autumn Winds at the Woods pairs beloved works by Amy Beach, Vivaldi, Mark O'Connor, Peter Schickele, William Grant Still, Alexandra Molnar-Suhajda and more with contemporary reflections on the natural world. Concert goers will experience a perfect blend of musical beauty, stunning architecture, and exceptional acoustics. VIP guests are invited to enjoy a post-concert reception with complimentary appetizers and a hosted bar. The concert will last approximately 65 minutes. The program includes:

THSO Woodwind Quintet

Three Nature Walks - Alexandra Molnar-Suhajda
Inspired by the sights and sounds of the natural world, Three Nature Walks paints a series of musical landscapes that invite listeners to experience the beauty, movement, and tranquility of nature through sound.

Pastorale - Amy Beach
Amy Beach's Pastorale captures the calm charm of the countryside with flowing melodies and warm harmonies. Its gentle character evokes a peaceful walk through a sunlit pastoral landscape.

Pastoral - Vincent Persichetti
Persichetti's Pastoral blends lyrical lines with his distinctive modern American style, creating music that is both reflective and expressive. The work suggests open spaces and a quiet connection to the natural world.

"Fall" from A Year in the Catskills - Peter Schickele
In this portrait of autumn in New York's Catskill Mountains, Schickele captures the season's changing colors, crisp air, and rustic charm. The music balances warmth and nostalgia with moments of playful energy.

THSO String Quartet

Summerland - William Grant Still
One of Still's most beloved works, Summerland unfolds as a serene and dreamlike meditation. Its lush melodies and gentle pace create an atmosphere of peace, reflection, and quiet beauty.

Appalachian Waltz - Mark O'Connor
Drawing on American folk traditions, Appalachian Waltz combines the elegance of a classical waltz with the heartfelt simplicity of Appalachian fiddle music. The result is a piece that is both deeply expressive and distinctly American.

"Autumn" from The Four Seasons - Antonio Vivaldi
Vivaldi's vibrant depiction of autumn celebrates the harvest season with joyful dances, rustic festivities, and scenes of hunters in pursuit. Its colorful musical storytelling remains as vivid and engaging today as it was nearly 300 years ago.

Selections from Keel Road - Danish String Quartet
Inspired by Nordic folk music traditions, the pieces from Keel Road blend original compositions with traditional melodies. Rich in storytelling and atmosphere, they evoke windswept landscapes, community gatherings, and the enduring connection between music and place.

Musicians featured include Angela Reynolds, Principal Flute; Rebecca McGuire, Principal Oboe; Samantha Johnson-Helms, Principal Clarinet; Chad Roseland, Principal Bassoon; Brian Kilp, Principal Horn; Lev Roshal, Violin; Ryan Tolentino, Violin; Quincy Tilles, Principal Viola; Felix Kim, Principal Cello.
