Terre Haute Symphony Opens Season with Mendelssohn & Tchaikovsky

The Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra (THSO) opens its 2026–27 season, Centennial Sounds, on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. at Tilson Auditorium with Mendelssohn & Tchaik, an evening pairing the music of Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky with a vibrant work by contemporary American composer Quinn Mason. Acclaimed violinist Eunice Kim joins the orchestra as guest soloist for Mendelssohn’s beloved Violin Concerto.
Roger Kalia, Music Director
Led by Music Director Dr. Roger Kalia, the THSO will begin the evening with selections from Quinn Mason’s A Joyous Trilogy, bringing an uplifting and energetic start to the new season. Eunice Kim will then take center stage for Felix Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto, a work treasured for its lyricism, virtuosity, and sweeping melodies. The program concludes with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6, the Pathétique, an intensely personal and dramatic work that remains one of the composer’s most powerful symphonic achievements.
Guest violinist Eunice Kim has been praised as “just superb” by The New York Times and “a born performer” by Epoch Times. A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, Kim has appeared as a soloist with ensembles including The Philadelphia Orchestra, Louisville Symphony, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Seongnam Philharmonic, Bakersfield Symphony, and Albany Symphony Orchestra. She made her solo debut at age seven with the Korean Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra.
Kim’s career has also taken her to venues and events around the world. She has performed at the United Nations, appeared at Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall, performed multiple times at the Kennedy Center, and toured throughout the United States, Asia, and Germany as a guest artist with Curtis on Tour. She has also been invited to perform on the historic “Ward” Stradivarius violin at the Library of Congress.
A graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, Kim studied with Ida Kavafian and received the Rose Paul Fellowship. During her time at Curtis, she served as concertmaster of the Curtis Symphony Orchestra and was awarded the Milka Violin Artist Prize upon graduation.

Supper at the Symphony
Make it a date night with a concert and Supper at the Symphony! Come to the concert early and enjoy a delectable three-course meal served in the McKee Family Heritage Ballroom of Tirey Hall, right down the hall from Tilson Auditorium. The cash bar opens at 5:00pm, and dinner is served promptly at 5:30pm. Dinner reservations are $30 per person. Patrons will enjoy a salad to start and choose one entrée of either Molasses Glazed Roasted Pork Loin, Salmon with Dill Sauce, or Pasta Alfredo, all served with Green Beans and Blistered Tomatoes. Pork and Salmon are also served with Herb Roasted Potatoes. Classic Strawberry Cheesecake will be served for dessert. Concert Tickets
Patrons can purchase concert tickets by visiting www.thso.org or calling the Hulman Center at (812) 237-3737. Ticket prices for adults are $24, $57, and $72. Student and youth tickets are $9, $15, and $19. Prices already include facility and venue fees.
Accessible Entrance
An elevator is available for patrons who need accessible entry at the rear of Tirey Hall. Patrons can be dropped off behind Tirey Hall in the alley between Fairbanks and Tilson for direct access to the elevator or enter through the ground level at the front of Tilson Auditorium via the downstairs lobby. Signage will be posted at the venue with directions to the elevator.
Parking
Patrons may park in the Indiana State University Parking garage located at 750 Cherry Street for free between 4 PM and 11 PM on the day of the concert. This parking garage is located across the street from Tilson Auditorium.
