The Musicians of Eppert's THSO (1904–1907)

David Chapman | March 13, 2026 | history@thso.org

There are no known photos of Eppert’s Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra. However, eleven out of 19 musicians in the 1904/1905 Rose Polytechnic Orchestra, including Carl Eppert himself, were also members of the 1903-1907 THSO. Their names are marked in red above. Photo of the Rose Polytechnic Orchestra and list of names come from the 1905 Rose Poly Modulus yearbook.

The following personnel list has been assembled from contemporaneous newspaper articles throughout Carl Eppert’s tenure as THSO conductor, 1903-1907. They are listed in the order they appeared.

Women who were originally identified by their husband’s name are listed here by their first names wherever we could determine them.

* Musicians marked with an asterisk were long-time THSO musicians and also played under Will Bryant after 1926!

Musicians marked with a dagger were Carl Eppert’s classmates and colleagues in the 1904/1905 Rose Polytechnic Orchestra (see photo above).

Some of these musicians will receive more attention in future blogposts, especially those with serious THSO longevity!
