This preview highlights Quinn Mason’s A Joyous Trilogy, a vibrant and uplifting contemporary work, alongside Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto, performed by Eunice Kim, known for its lyrical beauty and technical brilliance. The session concludes with insights into Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6, “Pathétique,” a masterpiece of emotional depth and dramatic intensity. Back by popular demand, the THSO is thrilled to return to the gorgeous Church of the Immaculate Conception at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods on October 18, 2026 at 4pm! This cathedral-like structure is an astonishingly beautiful space with superb acoustics. Join Ryan Tolentino, Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra Education Coordinator and violinist, for an engaging preview of the upcoming concert Plucked: Mandolin Journeys from Bluegrass to Brahms. This program highlights a genre-spanning evening featuring Michael Abels’ Delights & Dances, a vibrant bluegrass set led by mandolin virtuoso Solly Burton and collaborators, and Brahms’ Symphony No. 2. Musical insights, featured listening examples, and behind-the-scenes perspectives illuminate the mandolin’s versatility alongside the orchestra’s rich sound world, offering a deeper appreciation of this dynamic and colorful performance.

Michael Abels’ Delights & Dances opens the night with rhythmic sparkle and vibrant color. Mandolin virtuoso Solly Burton and friends light up the stage with a high‑energy bluegrass set that brings a fresh, fun fusion to the season. Brahms’ warm and expansive Symphony No. 2 rounds out this genre‑blending program with symphonic richness and charm.

This special chamber performance showcases the power and beauty of our Principal Brass and Percussion conducted by Music Director Roger Kalia, from the majestic Venetian fanfares of Giovanni Gabrieli to the serene beauty of Morten Lauridsen's O Magnum Mysterium. Audiences will enjoy beloved seasonal favorites including Joy to the World, Carol of the Bells, Sleigh Ride, and Leroy Anderson's jubilant A Christmas Festival, alongside charming classics such as March of the Toys, Infant Holy, Infant Lowly, and Sussex Mummers' Christmas Carol. The program also features David Watkins' Fanfare for Terre Haute, a stirring tribute to our community.

Experience one of the greatest silent films ever made in a whole new way as members of the Terre Haute Symphony Orchestra perform a live score to Buster Keaton's classic comedy-adventure The General (1926). Led by Music Director Roger Kalia, this special event at Hatfield Hall pairs Keaton's masterful physical comedy, breathtaking train chases, and timeless storytelling with the excitement of live orchestral performance.
